Liechty Homes at the Fair

A long-running tradition

Since 2001, Liechty Homes has been bringing a display home to the North Dakota State Fair in Minot, North Dakota. Visiting the home has become as much a tradition for many attendees of the fair as it is for us as a company. “It’s our first stop at the fair,” was a comment Teagan Erie, sales associate at Liechty Homes Minot, said he heard many times. “People like to stop in and see the display home and get ideas for decorating even if they’re not shopping for a home.” Tom Erie, General Manager of Liechty Homes, began the tradition in his early days with the company. “It’s fun to have people come into the home and realize you talked to them 15 years ago,” he said.

The Legend 86 displayed prominently at the North Dakota State Fair this year. Liechty Homes welcomed over 20,000 guests in the 9 day event.

More house than anyone expected

This year, our featured model was a Schult Legend 86. “The display home brings in many people who wouldn’t normally stop at our sales lot,” Tom Erie said. “They’re blown away by features they didn’t know they could get in a factory-built home. Some even say it exceeds their site-built home.” Luke Domres, sales associate at Liechty Homes Minot, agrees: “I got a lot of comments about how it ‘didn’t look like a trailer at all.’ I think people come in expecting the 14 x 80 house with wood paneling,” he said, but instead they came in to find an open layout with modern touches and colors.

Spacious interiors are a popular option among Liechty Homes customers.

People were also thrilled to learn they could customize their home. “We added four feet right to the middle of this floor plan,” said Domres. This added more space and a much more open vibe to the living area and kitchen of the home. Many appreciated the functionality of the mud room/utility area, which connects right to the second bathroom in this floor plan. “It’s the perfect mud room layout for North Dakota,” said Teagan.

Mud Rooms are a must-have feature for buyers across the Midwest. Connecting the back door through to the guest bath is just a great idea from Schult.

A nice break

“The extra space made it a great place to hang out, even when it was crowded,” said Bryce Livingston, sales associate at Liechty Homes Jamestown. An estimated 20,000 people visited the display home throughout the duration of the fair, and among the positive feedback we received it was clear that the crowd had an uncontested favorite feature: the air conditioning. As temperatures hit the upper 90s, the home offered a great place to regroup and reset in a relaxing environment.

Visitors were able to receive advice on more than just the purchase of a home. Schult representative Corey Theis was on site for the first day of the fair and proved to have a knack for predicting the outcome of the pig races, located across the street. After correctly calling the victory of the pig in the red scarf, he gave a little insight into his rationale; “Well, they say that drivers of red cars get pulled over more than any other color. I figure that has to mean something.”
