Liechty Homes Rapid City South Dakota

Rapid City, South Dakota, is the fastest growing community in the country, according to the US Census Bureau. Already a popular tourist destination for its natural beauty and charming downtown, increasing job opportunities have meant that many people from around the country are choosing to make their home in the Black Hills. Liechty Homes has been operating its sales center in nearby Black Hawk, South Dakota, since the late 1990s. Tom Erie, General Manager of Liechty Homes, says that he’s seen the local market grow and change dramatically in the nearly 25 years of the location’s history. “I’ve seen the Western South Dakota market in the Black Hills region change from more of a vacation destination spot to a place where people are moving for retirement, to get away from big city life, and to enjoy the beauty of the Black Hills.”

Meet The Team

Trevor Wenbourne, Office Manager and Sales Associate

Prior to joining the team at Liechty Homes Black Hawk, Wenbourne spent 12 years working in the manufactured housing industry, mostly in the area of sales. He says he believes in a customer-centric approach to sales. “I like to approach every customer and communicate with them, giving them my full attention when they’re here instead of letting them walk through the homes alone. I explain why they should work with Liechty Homes, our approach and what we can do for them.”

Keenan Dohn, Sales Associate

Keenan Dohn may be one of the newer faces at Liechty Homes Rapid City, but he's already making a big impact. With nearly a decade of experience in the manufactured home industry under his belt, Keenan brings a wealth of knowledge and a passion for helping customers find the perfect home. His friendly demeanor and dedication to customer service make him a valuable asset to the Rapid City team. "I'm here to guide customers through every step of the process," says Keenan. "From exploring different models to finding the right financing options, I want to make sure they feel confident and excited about their home buying journey."

Darla Browning, Office Admin

Browning worked in the business office in a nearby school district for 30 years before moving to the Rapid City area and taking a job working for the city for nearly another decade. Then, after helping a local church transition from paper to an automated accounting system, she was approached by a now-retired Liechty Homes employee to join the team in Black Hawk. She provides the support that helps to make the office successful-from her usual accounting tasks to greeting customers on the sales lot to light maintenance tasks. “If there’s a chore to do,” she says, “I step up and do it.”

The members of the Black Hawk staff share a camaraderie that helps them thrive. Erie says, “I’m excited about the team in Black Hawk. We have a very experienced sales staff that knows the area and how we can set houses in the unique terrain in Western South Dakota, and we’re going to be there to provide high quality homes for families and retirees who are moving there for the beauty and wonderful opportunities in the Black Hills.”

Reputation

The staff at Liechty Homes Black Hawk believes that the long-standing reputation of their sales center is key to its success. Anagnostopulos said he had heard a Liechty Homes ad on a local radio station with the line “Proven, trusted, preferred,” and says the word “trusted” stood out to him. As he considered making a shift into selling homes, he says, “I researched other competitors and I thought Liechty Homes is where I would want to buy something if I was in the market.” He notes a recent conversation with a customer who came into the sales center who told him, “The reason we’re here is you sell the best houses and have the best online reviews.” Wenborne agrees: “I think we sell the two nicest homes in the industry, and explaining to people why is super important. Frequently Asked Questions: Rapid City Manufactured Homes

Q: Why is Rapid City, South Dakota, an ideal market for manufactured and modular homes right now?

A: Rapid City and the Black Hills region are experiencing rapid population and job growth, making traditional stick-built housing increasingly expensive and slow. Manufactured and modular homes from Liechty Homes offer a crucial solution by providing high-quality, affordable housing on a much faster timeline. This efficiency allows families, new workers, and retirees to secure homeownership without the extended delays or high costs of the conventional building market in Western South Dakota.

Q: Does Liechty Homes’ Rapid City location serve the unique terrain of the Black Hills area?

A: Yes. Our sales center, located just outside Rapid City, specializes in the challenges of the Black Hills terrain. We provide expert guidance on site preparation, working with customers to ensure their chosen land can properly accommodate the home's foundation (such as a basement or crawlspace) and manage utility hookups in steep or challenging landscapes. Our staff knows the area and the unique installation requirements of South Dakota.

Q: What financing options are available for purchasing a manufactured home with land near Rapid City?

A: We connect buyers with local lenders in the Rapid City area who specialize in Land-Home Packages. These comprehensive loans finance the purchase of the home, the land, and site improvements all in one. Options include Conventional Mortgages, FHA loans, and VA loans (for veterans at Ellsworth AFB and the surrounding region), provided the home is permanently affixed to the land and classified as real property.

Q: Are there any specific zoning or permit requirements unique to manufactured homes in the Rapid City area?

A: Yes. While modular homes are built to the same local codes as site-built homes, manufactured homes must meet local performance standards if placed outside a designated park. Many Rapid City-area jurisdictions require the home to be placed on a permanent foundation, have the hitch/running gear removed, and comply with aesthetic standards (like roof pitch and siding) to secure the necessary local permits. Your Liechty Homes Rapid City team helps navigate these specific municipal and county regulations.
